Skate Proof

First came Thrashin' (1986) and then Gleaming the Cube (1989) and now, it seems, the feature-length skateboard crime/drama is poised to hit the big screen once again with Skate Proof. Skate Proof (written by Jesse Anthony) is currently in the financing stages of development, but with a strong media package that includes a website, YouTube trailer and the tag line “Somethings you can't roll away from”, this film must surely get the green light. Here's a breakdown of the crime/drama plot from the site: “Skate Proof is a feature-length film about a skateboarder who witnesses his best friend get killed, and struggles to cope with the death and ultimately decides to settle the score” I'm already envisioning emotionally-charged skate montages ala Christian Slater (see: Gleaming) and epic ditch battles with crude weaponry. But who knows, maybe this film plans to go a different route than the traditional hyper-exaggerated gnarliness. I sure hope not.
